Summary

The Car Repair Specialist inspects railcars and truck assemblies to Greenbrier and industry standards, and customer specifications.  This position marks all repairs needed on location for the car to be repaired, and completes repairs as needed. This position ensures repairs have been made according to correct weld procedure and criteria.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.

  • Uses a tagging system and records of traceability per National Institute of Standards and Technology
  • Accurately inspects and documents results of visual testing
  • Identifies, communicates, and records defects
  • Verifies repairs and re-work have been completed and meet quality standards
  • Reviews in-process documentation for accuracy and completion
  • Works with outside inspectors
  • Performs production welding during those times when production supervision requires such assistance
  • Assists in assessing welding procedures and methodologies in plant
  • Ensures that safety and housekeeping standards are met and maintained

Minimum Qualifications

  • 1+ years experience in manufacturing environment
  • Ability to keep accurate records
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions and procedures including blueprints and schematics
  • Ability to work under minimal supervision
  • Ability to communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing, at all levels of the organization
  • Ability to obtain weld qualifications in house

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • 3+ years' manufacturing experience,
  • 1+ years’ experience in Quality department

  • This position is in a production environment with exposure to heat, cold, noise, moving railcars and machinery, and trip hazards where head, hearing, eye, and foot protection including composite toed safety shoes, are required.

  • This position may be required to work at heights of up to 20 ft or within confined spaces.
