Summary

The Machine Operator Level A is responsible for conducting set-ups and change overs, operating various types of machinery to produce parts within dimensional tolerances, using select feeds and speeds based on alloy type to obtain the optimal cutting conditions and producing the longest tool life. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.

  • Follows all EHS rules and regulations.
  • Produces parts according to print requirements, and produces tooling, fixtures or other parts using various types of machinery.
  • Measures part dimensions using calipers, micrometers, or other types of measurement equipment ensuring parts are within Greenbrier Rail Services and Association of American Railroads specifications.
  • Maintains tools and equipment in good, clean working order to maximize tool life.
  • Performs safety checks on every machine, keeping work area clean and orderly.
  • Monitors machines during every procedure to ensure machine optimization.
  • Participates in mentoring others on the processes and procedures within the Machine Operator family of positions.

The following generally describes requirements to successfully perform the assigned duties.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Proficient in advanced machine operations; multiple machine functionality.
  • Advanced proficiency in using measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, tape measures, and other gauging and measuring equipment.
  • Proficiency in determining and regulating speed and feed rates of machines.
  • Ability to focus and pay close attention to detail while managing and prioritizing multiple tasks.
  • Proficient in CNC programming and editing.
  • Ability to work, communicate, and instruct others within a team setting.
  • Ability to recognize defects, out-of-tolerance measurements and escalate those matters to management.
  • Ability to document measurements and other criteria legibly.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 2 years work experience.
  • Experience working in a production environment using heavy industrial equipment and/or machinery.
