Summary

The X-Ray Trainee assists the Radiographer Level 1 and 2 in performing radiographic (x-ray) inspections of railcar tanks and other related items in the x-ray dark room. They assist with laying out items for x-raying, stamping items with a steel stamp and conducting and processing x-ray film.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.

  • Assists Radiographers in performing radiographic (x-ray) inspection of railcar tanks.
  • Assists in establishing lay outs of railcar tanks and other items to be examined.
  • Uses steel stamping tool to stamp railcar tanks and other items for identifications purposes.
  • Assists in recording the identities of x-rayed railcar tanks by lot numbers and tank numbers.
  • Assists in processing the x-ray film in the darkroom by changing the cassettes, mixing chemicals, changing the lead screens, and maintaining the processor equipment.
  • Assists in classifying and gathering x-ray film for each railcar tank and other items and presents such film to the Film Interpreter for review.
  • Ensures that safety and housekeeping standards are met and maintained.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possesses a knowledge of weld seams and the ability to determine if welds meet specified quality standards
  • Ability to accurately complete and document visual inspections
  • Ability to follow written procedures
  • Ability to work independently and with a team
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively 

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalency test/GED
  • 1+ years manufacturing experience in non-destructive testing

  • This position is in a production environment with exposure to heat, cold, noise, moving machinery and trip hazards where personal protective equipment such as head, eye, hearing, and foot protection, including composite toed safety boots are required.
  • This position may be exposed to welding, machining, forming, metal surface treatment, laser cutting, plasma cutting, and other metal working and assembly processes.
  • Additional PPE may be required as determined by the environment.
