Summary

Provide management support of Greenbrier owned and/or managed railcar assets. Audit estimates and invoices. Communicate with asset managers, car owners, customers and repair shops. Follow asset management established SOP’s and procedures. Ability to internally escalate and externally communicate on the status of that asset to its owner.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.

  • Coordinate shop space for Rule 107 damaged railcars. Communicate with the repairing party on the required instructions and documentation for the proper repair process.
  • Create shopping instructions when required, using Greenbrier procedures.
  • Manage damaged railcars in and out of repair shops using Greenbrier systems.
  • Review and process railcar repair estimates from repair shops.
  • Communicate as needed with the asset manager, car owner, and/or customers to obtain approvals for repair estimates.
  • Communicate as the liaison between GMS, the car owner/customer, and the repair service provider.
  • Verify that repair costs and procedures meet AAR, industry, and Greenbrier standards.
  • Audit and process both contract shop and AAR repair invoices.
  • Exercise sound judgment regarding repair shop selection, determined by car type.
  • Ensure work is being performed in facilities authorized by the customer and audited by Greenbrier if necessary.
  • Process and manage railcars reported with wreck, defect card, and Rule 95 damage.
  • Manage the process of scraping cars as needed.
  • Monitor industry-required changes and regulations.
  • Participate in communication, camera conference calls, and/or face-to-face meetings.
  • Perform railcar inspections and training as needed.
  • Travel within the United States, Canada, and Mexico as needed.

Qualifications

The following generally describes requirements to successfully perform the assigned duties.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • College degree or equivalent work experience in the rail industry or related field.
  • 2+ years of progressive rail experience, railcar maintenance planning, or railcar fleet management.
  • Strong work ethic, initiative-taking, self-managed.
  • Demonstrate organizational skills and ability to multitask with attention to detail.
  • The ability to work diligently and independently and with other team members and service providers is a must.
  • Demonstrate effective communication skills, both written and verbal, in office and field settings.
  • Excellent working knowledge of computers and PC software (MS Office: proficient in Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Internet-based software), and the ability to learn new software.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of AAR Car Repair Billing Rules, the AAR Field, and Office Manuel's.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing, repair operational functions, and AAR/FRA tank car rules and regulations.
  • Strong ability to multitask and perform in a conceptual and technical environment.

  • The majority of time in this position will be in a climate controlled office environment.
  • Occasionally required to be in a plant or shop environment, which will require the use of PPE equipment as environmental conditions dictate.
