Summary

The Engineering Tech creates, tests, and introduces tools, jigs, and other engineering devices. This position assists in preparation of detailed operation and production line flow sheets and submits engineering changes and other related information for review.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.

  • Creates, tests, and introduces tools, jigs, and other engineering devices from shop drawings to improve the required manufacturing processes.
  • Develops methods and fabricates jigs and fixtures to assemble parts and assure quality of finished product.
  • Assists in the preparation of detailed operation sheets which designate materials, machine tools, tooling, die and fixture requirements for each operation.
  • Presents engineering changes, processing and method changes, and changed shop conditions for review.
  • Participates in review of operation sheets, flow charts, tools, dies and fixtures, and facilities requirements with the engineering staff, shop supervision, and other plant management.
  • Ensures that safety and housekeeping standards are met and maintained.

The following generally describes requirements to successfully perform the assigned duties.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • 2+ years experience in a manufacturing environment including: tooling, metal working, or fabricating environment that consists of reading and understanding mechanical drawings and blueprints and hands-on experience in tooling and fixturing processes.
  • Ability to document records accurately under tight timeframes
  • Ability to accurately demonstrate visual inspections for safety, equipment and processes, parts and welding processes
  • Ability to follow oral and written instructions including basic blue prints and schematics
  • Ability to work both alone and in a team environment
  • Ability to communicate professionally, both verbally and in writing 
  • Ability to receive and interpret information and communicate it accordingly
  • Ability to make quick, effective judgements to resolve problems or navigate challenges

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency test/GED
  • Engineering Associate or Bachelor degree
  • Ability to create drawings and blueprints using Auto CAD programs
  • Experience leading and managing others
  • Experience in robotic systems, metal fabrication, and arc welding

This position is in a production environment with exposure to heat, cold, noise, moving machinery and trip hazards where personal protective equipment such as head, eye, hearing, and foot protection, including composite toed safety shoes, are required.

This position may be exposed to welding, machining, forming, metal surface treatment, laser cutting, plasma cutting, and other metal working and assembly processes.

Additional PPE may be required as determined by the environment.
