Summary

The Operator 2 Blast position prepares the railcars to be blasted, operates advanced equipment to blast the interior and/or exterior of manufactured rail cars and repairs poor blast work to meet required customer specifications. Pulls and scotches rail cars, as required. 

 

Duties and Responsibilities

To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform the following essential duties satisfactorily. Other duties may be assigned to address business needs and changing business practices.

  • Connects railcars to rabbit device to pull railcars into automatic blast equipment
  • Operates advanced automatic blast machine to blast exteriors and/or interiors of railcars
  • Suits up on hood, coveralls, and gloves to perform touch up hand blasting of railcars after the automatic blasting
  • Pulls and scotches rail cars
  • Trouble shoots, maintains, and cleans blast equipment
  • Ensures that safety and housekeeping standards are met and maintained
  • Preps cars for paint and blast

Minimum Qualifications

  • Ability to be fit-tested and wear a respirator in the areas where respirator use is required
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions

Preferred Qualifications

  • High school education or equivalent
  • Blast machine experience

  • This position is in a production environment with exposure to heat, cold, noise, moving railcars and machinery, and trip hazards where head, hearing, eye, and foot protection including composite toed safety shoes, are required
  • This position will be exposed to hazardous chemicals which requires the use of a blast suit, gloves, and wearing a respirator.  For Safety purposes, employees must be clean-shaven when wearing a respirator
  • Additional personal protective equipment may be required as determined by the environment.
  • This position may be required to work at heights of 20 ft or within confined spaces.
